Bodhi Eco-Project

We are a charity planning to build an eco-village, which will be designed as a human scale model for low impact, affordable housing incorporating eco-friendly buildings, renewable energy technology, and land stewardship practices. We want to show that communities can thrive without dependency on oil and that this is now a necessary, viable and life enriching option. To this end Bodhi is offering an educational programme for sustainable living based on permaculture design and non-violent communication (NVC).

In these times of accelerating social fragmentation and environmental depletion, Bodhi Eco-Project strives to model a lifestyle which can empower us to live sustainably and harmoniously with each other and with this precious, living planet.

Seeing an urgent need for awakening to our involvement in the environmental crisis we take inspiration from Buddhism and the concept of ‘Bodhi’, meaning to live from an awareness of our interconnectedness with the living universe. Our principles of non-violence and mindful living apply as much in how we relate to ourselves and to each other, as they do to our relationship with the planet. We consider a social fabric based on compassion and skilful communication to be as important as sound infrastructure. Meditation will be a highly valued practice in our community.

The cultivation of human creativity strongly characterises the Bodhi vision and the village will reflect peoples' wide ranging skills in areas of the arts, people orientated work, permaculture and eco-technology.

Legal structures will be harmonious with the above principles and encourage a spirit of sharing and generosity by using structures such as a community land trust, housing co-ops, work co-ops and housing associations.
